BOTOX
Most patients associate botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) with the treatment of wrinkles, but it also has many therapeutic properties including the treatment of blepharospasm, temporomandibular disorders, neck contracture and migraines, to name a few. BOTOX® temporarily paralyzes the muscles, causing them to relax. It binds to nerve terminals and prevents the release of acetylcholine and release of inflammatory mediators including substance P and glutamine. Dr. Kristen can treat TMJ by injecting into the muscles associated with clenching and grinding (decreasing tooth fracture). She regularly treats the “elevens” and giving a patient a natural “eyebrow raise” along with the forehead (frontalis) and “crows-feet” around the eyes. Reducing the “Gummy” appearance of smiles is also one of Dr. Kristen’s passions. BOTOX® takes up to 10 days for full effect after the injections and lasts for 3-6 months. Dr. Kristen recommends a consultation appointment to discuss patient goals prior to the treatment.
Dermal Fillers
Most dermal fillers are composited of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our body! They help to restore volume by attracting water molecules. Patients are most familiar with lip fillers, but there are many other areas to place fillers to restore beauty in one’s face such as cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds and scars! Dr. Kristen will first allow time to numb the superficial tissue prior to injecting dermal filler into the dermis layer of the skin. The results are instantaneous compared to Botox and last up to 1 year.
PDO Lifting Threads
PDO is short for Polydioxanone which is a biodegradable suture that helps lift and tighten skin. It is known as a non-surgical face lifting procedure. A thread or suture is inserted under your skin and physically pulled to tighten the skin immediately. The PDO thread dissolves over 6 months stimulating collagen neogenesis and creating volume along with the gradual tightening of skin. Results can last up to 3 years! Dr. Kristen not only lifts eyebrows, jowls, nasolabial folds, but also tighten the neck and jawline!
PDO Smooth Threads
These thin shorter threads are placed under the skin to help with acne scaring and general scaring on areas of the face and neck. Same concept as the lifting threads, as they dissolve over time, they form new collagen. Smooth threads are another important adjunct in facial aesthetics!
